PROJECT OVERVIEW
The inspiration for the lyrics has come from real-life events that happened in Sri Lanka. Supplying female domestic workers to Middle Eastern countries is a major contributor to Sri Lanka’s GDP. In an economy where a household is unable to satisfy its primary needs within the local community, women (Mothers) are forced to work in the Middle East and make higher earnings. This is a very ordinary phenomenon in rural and less developed regions of Sri Lanka. The whole construct of a household collapses, and the protection for children is dissipated with the absence of the mother.
As a result, more child abuse cases are recorded within the families where the mother has left abroad for work. Unfortunately, most abusive acts are caused by the people who are closest and dearest to the children. Therefore it is important to discuss why such incidents occur, can we solely blame the wrongdoer for his crime, and how failed is our system to let this kind of incident happen in our society.
